Your Chamber of Commerce has a brand new name!

 

Your local Chamber of Commerce coordinates networking and marketing efforts throughout Green Oak Township, Lyon Township, Salem and Northville Townships and the City of South Lyon. In order to create a more inclusive feel for all of the areas that we serve, we are pleased to announce that the name was changed recently from South Lyon Area Chamber of Commerce to Kensington Valley Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber, along with its 300-plus members, stands as a united voice to positively impact business and the overall quality of life for everyone who lives and works in the South Lyon area. It does so by developing and promoting beneficial relationships between businesses and the community.

The Chamber is uniquely situated to encompasses three different counties (Oakland, Livingston and Washtenaw), four different townships (Lyon, Green Oak, Northfield and Salem) and the City of South Lyon. Developing and implementing programs and services for our member businesses increases the likelihood that they will grow and prosper, therefore increasing investment and job opportunities in the area. This effort by the Chamber contributes to the overall economic growth of the entire community, making it even more attractive for prospective businesses and residents.

The Chamber of Commerce for the South Lyon Area sponsors events each year for its members, including the annual Golf Outing in June as well as breakfast and after-hour mixers. The Chamber also sponsors a number of community events providing members additional ways to promote their businesses.

Call for Nominations Chamber of Commerce for the South Lyon Area Board of Directors 3 year term: Jan 2017 - Dec 2019 The Chamber of Commerce for the South Lyon Area is now accepting nominations for four (4) Board of Directors positions. This is a three-year term beginning January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2019. Nominations shall be in writing and delivered to the Chamber office no later than 4:00 p.m. on Monday, November 21, 2016. Active members may nominate themselves or another member in good standing by submitting a short bio to Andrea Meyer at andreameyer@kensingtonvalleychamber.com or to the mailing address below. 2016 Election Schedule Nominations accepted through November 21, 2016 Nominees Approved November 28, 2016 Ballots distributed Nov 29, 2016 and are due December 12, 2016 Statement of Votes on December 17, 2016 ROLE OF A BOARD MEMBER All Chamber activities, policies, and programs are governed by the Board of Directors. The functions of the Board of Directors are legislative in nature and the Board is the policy-forming branch of the organization. Board members serve a three (3) year term and these terms are staggered such that two, three or four seats are open for election each year. Officers are appointed by the Board and consist of the President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary. REGULAR BOARD MEETINGS Board meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 9am and generally conclude by 10:00am. Board meetings are held in the Lyon Township Hall boardroom which is located in the same building as the chamber office in the upper level. The Chamber of Commerce for the South Lyon Area wishes to extend a most gracious welcome to our historical and charming communities. Located in the southwest corner of Oakland County, the South Lyon Area encompasses approximately 88 square miles, including the communities of  South Lyon, New Hudson, Green Oak, Salem, and Northfield.  The area retains a rural atmosphere but is ideally located so that educational, cultural and recreational amenities are easily accessible. We are conveniently located 30 minutes from Ann Arbor and Detroit, Flint and Lansing are quick commutes from South Lyon.  Kensington Metropark is minutes away and is accessible by bike through the 25-mile paved Huron Valley Trail.
